You Can’t Catch Fish On Dry Land

Evaluate whether or not your environment supports your purpose.

Multiple choice question: Which of these settings are most conducive for a fish’s development?

Your kitchen skillet.

A fish bowl.

The ocean.

If you said “the ocean”, you’re correct! It’s quite peculiar, but the same sentiment applies to us as humans. Our environment has the potential to impact our growth. In fact, there are environments that aren’t conducive to our well-being and hinders our overall growth. However, oftentimes we have to be exposed to a new way of thinking and/or being to identify the limitations of our environment.

Let’s consider the infamous Disney animated film “Finding Nemo” (2003). When Nemo found himself away from his Dad in a fishtank, after being accustomed to the ocean, he identified that something was wrong. Nemo knew that the environment was restrictive to his growth and purpose. Plus, he was aware that the ocean served a greater purpose than the fishtank.

With that said, one must evaluate the limitations of their environment and begin to pursue purpose; not money, not people, not titles, and not fame… pursue purpose.

Words of Wisdom by Char of the Week: This week, evaluate your environment (what you hear, who you surround yourself with, the places you go, the space around you). Once evaluating your environment, ask yourself “what I’m I ready to grow-out-of and what I’m I ready to grow?” or “what doors need to be closed and what doors do I need to be opened?”. Next, envision which environments provide you with the platform to grow. Philippians 2:13
