STRICKLY BUSINESS
No better way to describe the Seattle Seahawks 23-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. The return of running back Chris Carson, Cornerback Shaquill Griffin and Ethan Pocic had a dramatic impact on the game. Carson showed his versatility, durability and appetite for destruction when scored on a 16 yard romp that left defenders dead in the water like they were water buoys in Lake Washington during the Hydroplane races. Carson finished the day with 41 rushing yards on eight carries and 18 receiving yards on two receptions. Pocic’s contribution went unnoticed which is a good thing when you are the center. That is there were no fumbles between center and quarterback and Wilson was sacked just twice in the game. See the quarterback calls the play for the offense and the center calls the offensive line assignments. So in essence there are two quarterbacks on offense. One player who was head and shoulders above the rest was wide receiver DK Metcalf. The second year receiver had 10 receptions for 177 yards. Yea I said . 177 receiving yards. That number but him over the 1,000 yard receiving mark with five games left in the regular season.
ANOTHER STELLLAR DEFEINSIVE EFFORT
The return of Griffin solidified the defensive backfield and enable the Seahawks to clamp down on the Eagles pass offense. Actually the whole offense if you will. The Seahawks allowed the Eagles just 70 rushing yards and 180 passing yards. The majority of the passing yards came on the Eagles last drive of the game when the Seahawks were in a prevent defense. Strong Safety Jamal Adams led the Seahawks stella defensive effort with a team high six sacks. Linebacker Bobby Wagner finished the game with five tackles that put him over 100 for the season. That marks nine seasons in row in which Wagner has recorded at least 100 tackles . Yes Seahawks fans the team is rounding out just nicely for a strong playoff run. And did I mention that the Seahawks are in first place all by themselves ? Yes they are making for a happy head coach Pete Carroll.
“ Defense did a fantastic job all night long. Really started fast. Stayed with it. Unfortunately we slopped that last drive in there and gave them a chance to get in there.
But the whole night was really good. I don't know the numbers other than the six sacks, but we were in control , “Carroll said after the game. “ It was great to see our guys play like that and play consistently. Again, like last week, a lot of corrections, a lot of things fixes during the game, a lot of great communication. We've taken a real nice step forward and I'm hoping we can just keep building on it.”
