The Seattle Sounders were expected to compete for the Major League Soccer Championship trophy this season. Expectations were high to say the least. The team went out and signed Argentinian midfielder Pedro de la Vega to bring more firepower to their attack. Last season the team had the best defense in the league. With optimism and swagger at a high the Sounders were ready to conquer MLS if not the world. As we all know in and sports things don’t always go as planned. And boy let me tell you, disaster and calamity knocked on the Sounders door, let me retract that and say those two evils bater rammed the Sounders door if you will. Disaster and calamity arrived via the injury bug. The Godzilla sized bug sidelined Del la Vega, midfielders Leo Chu, Albert Rusnack Joao Paulo , Obed Vargas , goal keeper Stefan Frei, and defender Yeimar. As a result the Sounders are last place in the Western Conference after five games. The team has two draws and three losses. Some of the players have begun to make their way back on the pitch, Yeimar, Frei, and Rusnack have given the team some hope. With 29 game left in the season there is plenty of time but not as much time as there was if you know what I mean. The Sounders biggest game of the season will be this Saturday against a Montreal team that is 8th in the Eastern Conference and has a record of two wins, two losses and a draw . Saturday’s game is at home against and rep opponent who is lets just say it as bad as the Sounders. Montreal represents an opportunity for the Sounders to take that first step in getting back to fulfilling their preseason expectations.
