In and sports at some point the question beckons. Is it time for a change? It is never good to rush to judgement and never good to overstay your welcome. My way of saying buyer beware. Because this is a sports column we will stick to sports. Staying with the low hanging fruit here.
The I am not appreciated so it’s time to move on mantra can have a happy ending. Ask one Tom Brady who just won his seventh Superbowl and first with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday. After nineteen years with the New England Patriots and six Super Bowls victories Brady parted ways with the Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick. The Patriots record last season was 7-9. Tom Brady won the Superbowl and the Superbowl MVP award. Will let you decide.
Let’s go a whole different direction with this discussion. The Washington Huskies Men’s Basketball team record is 3-14. The Huskies are 0-7 on the road have won just two conference games and a cellar dwellers of the Pac-12 . The Huskies have seven games left before the Pac-12 tournament. The Huskies were 15-17 last year and finished you guessed it 12th in the conference. In case you are wondering this is head coach Mike Hopkins fourth year with the Huskies. Year one the Huskies went 21-13 and were tied for 6th in the conference. The Huskies made it to the NIT second round. During Hopkins second year the Huskies went 27-9 finished first in the Pac-12 and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Hopkins four year record as the Huskies head coach is 66-53. Just a little better than a 500 win percentage. Is it time for a change? In all fairness the Huskies have placed three first round NBA draft picks in Hopkins four years. Is it
time for a coaching change?
