November 22, 1940    ~    November 30, 2023


Gilbert is survived by his Life Partner: Carolyn, Daughter: Danita, Grandchildren: Maiea, Ashley, Sterling, Great Grandchildren: Amajhe, Jaisaan, Tyrell, Aniya, LeeAlanna and Great Great Granddaughter: Ela. Two Brothers: George & Robert, Sister-in-laws: Patricia & Irma,  many nieces, nephews and extended Family in Texas.


Gilbert Nickles was born in Houston, Texas to Sanjoe and Gus Nickles, on November 22nd 1940.  He was the oldest of 9 siblings, 5 brothers and 4 sisters. 


At a young age Gilbert moved to Seattle with his Grandmother, Mother & Siblings. He grew up in the Mount Baker Area, graduated from Franklin High School, completed college courses in business, and went into Entrepreneurship. He owned Mr. D’s Mens Fashions in the 70’s located on 23rd & Union, was active in Central Area Activities, Community Events and the local Music & Entertainment industry. In the early 80’s he relocated to Daly City, California with Carolyn aka Kooki, where he became known for his Mudcloth, African fabrics and garments. Gilbert and Kooki returned to Seattle in the early 2000’s, where they resided in the Seatac Area.


He is greatly missed by his family and friends.   


A celebration of life will be planned for a future date in 2024.
