E. Carolynn Daye, one of Seattle's unsung heroes, was born on October 12, 1943 to the union of Eddie L. Daye and Ceatria Daye in Tyler, Texas. The family moved to seattle when she was still a small child. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and became a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church during the 1950s.
After graduating from Garfield High School in Seattle, Carolyn attended Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA for two years. She later studied at the University of Washington, where she graduated with a bachelor of arts degree.
It was during this time, she discovered her passion for civil rights and justice. This conviction led her to assist in writing the African American students' resolution that resulted in the birth of the black student union. Throughout her life, she continued to do her part to alleviate injustices perpetrated on African Americans throughout our community.
God called E. Caolynn Daye home to eternal rest on June 20, 2025.
