“A LIFE WELL LIVED” Linda Rae Jones

On Saturday, August 14, 2021, a page turned and a chapter closed in the life of Linda Rae Jones. After suffering from many medical setbacks, she passed away at the age of 66. Linda was born on June 19, 1955 in Seattle Washington from the union of the late Raymond L. Jones and Melvina Lee Jones, owners of Jones Fuel Company and longtime pillars of the community.

Linda was a proud graduate of Roosevelt High school (1973), the University of Washington (1977) (BA in Political Science and Gov.), and Highline Community College (1985) (AA in Nursing) While a student at the University of Washington, Linda pledged and was accepted into the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She loved her pink and green!

Linda was a multi-faceted professional. Her career path started as an RN (Group Health), Sound Heart Program Director (Center for Multicultural Health), Executive Director (Central Area Senior Center), and she served as a highly effective Memorial Counselor and sales associate (Evergreen Washelli). While at Evergreen Washelli, Linda broke sales records and personally ensured members of her community were completely prepared for that final day. Unfortunately, her failing health forced her to retire from this very rewarding vocation.

Linda received a number of honors & awards which included: the ‘National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer Community Outreach and Education Award’ and she was selected one of the “45 Outstanding Women” by the National Council of Negro Women.

The joy of Linda’s life was her family. Of all of her accomplishments, she was most proud of being a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and cousin. She always enjoyed talking about family, especially her brothers. Linda was full of life, her smile would light up the room when she entered. Her love and kindness was felt by all that encountered her and you couldn’t ask for a better friend. Linda was preceded in death by parents: Raymond and Melvina Jones, brothers: Jeffery and Theodore Jones(Teddy), Uncle: Theodore Jones, Aunt: Lillie Jones, Cousins: Keith Donnell, Steve Jordan, Marc Goudeau, and Carol Fontno. (Sister/Soror/best friend) Venise Jones,Linda is survived by Aunts: Archie M. Jones, Mary Ruth Shadrick, Elizabeth Jordan and Donella Goudeau, Uncles: Adam Lee Jr. and Joseph Goudeau, Nephew: Jamar Jones, Niece: Kyla Jones, Grandniece: Mikayla, Grandnephews: Amari and Jamari; one adopted brother and special friend Charles Wilson and very special friend and co-worker Kristen Beckett, and a host of other family and friends.

A memorial service will lovingly occur on September 17, 2021 at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Central Area Senior Center.
