Paul Arthur Lowe, Sr. was born on August 16, 1935 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, as the cherished only
child of Isaiah and Beatrice Lowe. He passed away on February 26, 2025 at 12:32 P.M., having expressed his
readiness for the journey ahead with the words, "It’s okay, I am ready."
Paul spent his early years in Hot Springs until the age of nine. In 1943-4 during the great migration
and World II, his father, the Reverend Isaiah Lowe moved the family to Portland, Oregon where he spent his
adolescent years. His father served as an associate minister while also working at the local City Shipyard.
After a short period in Portland, answering his call to ministry, he was sent by the presiding Bishop WR
McKinney of the Oregon State Ecclesiastical Jurisdictional to plant a Church of God in Christ in La Grande,
Oregon, an up-south town in Eastern Oregon. During those years Paul could be found in church on Sunday
playing the guitar while his mother, Mrs. Beatrice Lowe, sang and played the piano. She was a great lover of
hymns.
He graduated from La Grande High School in 1954, where he was a popular and well-spoken student,
known for his outgoing nature and participation on the football team. In addition, he had an entrepreneurial
spirit and started a Window cleaning service while in High School. As one of the few African Americans in the
school and town, he stood out for his character and determination. After graduation, Paul moved back to
Portland, attending community college for two years where he studied Drafting.
Recognizing the burgeoning opportunities in Seattle's aerospace industry, he relocated to Puget Sound
around 1959 and secured a position with the Boeing Company, where he dedicated 35 years of service. He was
also real estate agent. Paul took pride in his accomplishments at Boeing, notably never experiencing a layoff
during the company's cyclical downturns. His strategy was to continually experience different departments to
learn new skills and solve problems, ultimately to become a highly valued planning engineer. He excelled in
designing the tools needed to build new plane designs, often pioneering innovative tools that saved the company
millions of dollars. Despite his managers often receiving the credit, Paul was content with the independence he
was given to solve design and manufacturing challenges as a valued member of the Boeing aerospace team. In
addition, he believed it contributed to his career longevity and success, allowing him to provide for himself and
his family.
In Seattle, Paul met and married Betty Lou Harris, with whom he had two sons, Reverend Doctor Paul
Arthur Lowe, Jr., who serves as pastor of the Shiloh Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, NC, and the North
Carolina Senate, and Anthony Steven Lowe, VP-Assistant General Counsel, JPMorgan Chase.
While he held traditional views on discipline, he was generous with his love and dreams for his boys.
He encouraged their aspirations, inspired by his own dreams, and provided them with opportunities for
exploration and education, including early education at the Montessori Little School and UW Learning Center.
He tried to keep his boys in engaged in extracurricular activities, including: music, swimming, baseball, skiing,
camping, fishing and karate. Although less enthusiastic about Anthony's horseback riding, so Anthony got a
paper route. Paul Senior was deeply committed to his family's religious faith, with church attendance being a
central part of their lives. Sometimes, morning, noon and night.
Despite the eventual separation from Betty, Paul remained devoted to his family. After a period as a
reasonably unsuccessful bachelor, he recommitted to his faith and joined New Restoration Church in Tacoma
where he eventually served as a Deacon. Seeking a partner strong in the faith, he was introduced to Falyssia R.
Campbell, a woman of God, with whom he shared a profound spiritual connection. They married on March 28,
1998.
In 2001, they united with the Greater Heights Church of God in Christ of Tacoma, Washington. They
were very active church members with Paul serving as Senior Deacon, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Men’s
Ministry, and Co-leader of the Marriage Ministry with wife, Falyssia Lowe.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Falyssia R. Lowe; his sons, Paul (LaGail) and
Anthony (Angela); his extended family, including Falyssia’s son, Carlous Jermaine Hardeman; granddaughters,
Ashton Bailey Lowe, Ariana Alys Lowe, Lexus Falyssia-Marie Hardeman; grandson, Marquise Jermaine
Hardeman; and sisters, Gwendolyn Wilson (LH), Janie M. Roberts (Richard), Cynthia J. Gray (Reggie),
Michael Anthony Hardeman (Tiara) and Dominque Hardeman (Becky).
