Food Drive Follow-Up

On last Friday (December 18th, 2020) between 11am and 3pm, Myself and other All In for Washington student organizers hosted a Food Drive outside of Greater Gospel Temple COGIC. Over 70 bags of groceries were handed out to community members. Although our intended demographic was Black, Indigenous, and other people of color residing in Skyway, South Seattle (Soufend), and North Renton, residents of Kent, North Seattle, Shoreline, and Federal Way also received groceries!

Food items within our hefty grocery bags included: filtered water, whole wheat/sourdough/multigrain bread, organic beans, brown rice, Cup Noodles, mandrin oranges, bananas, grits packets, oatmeal packets, cereal packets, canned meat, fruit bars, fruit blend pouches, hot chocolate and apple cider packets…. And yes, all these items were able to fit into one bag! Thank you again to Pastor Cole, Pastor Watson, and All In for Washington for investing in my vision to bless our community for the holidays.

Learn more about All In for Washington:

I was empowered to host this event and connect with the people in which All In for Washington serves. Did you know that it takes nearly three months for citizens-- who earn an annual salary of $20,000 and under-- to pay their taxes. Whereas, it only takes 9 days for citizens -- who earn an annual salary of half a million dollars or more-- to pay their taxes. This is economic injustice. However, All In for Washington recognizes that racial injustice and economic injustice are tightly woven together. For this reason, they work towards reforming Washington’s regressive tax codes.
