Featuring a Lion Dance by Mak Fai Kung Fu Club, an art installation by Seattle artist Monyee Chau, local food trucks, and the unveiling of a new fire pit on Pier 62, Friends of Waterfront Seattle is excited to ring in the Year of the Rabbit/Cat with its program partners and the public.
Seattle, Washington (January 22, 2023) —
The Second Annual Lunar New Year on the Pier will take place on January 22nd, from 2pm to 4pm, on Pier 62 at Seattle’s Waterfront. Friends of Waterfront Seattle (Friends) is excited to be partnering once again with Mak Fai Kung Fu Club to present a traditional Chinese lion dance performance from 2pm to 2:30pm, along with an art installation by local Seattle artist Monyee Chau, and local food by Kathmandu Momocha and Gourmet Noodle Bowl.
The day also marks the unveiling and inaugural lighting of a fire pit on Pier 62. This custom fabricated piece will bring a festive ambience and warmth to the waterfront during the winter months. Multiple fire pits will be lit every Sunday evening during the winter months by Friends staff.
“Last year, our Lunar New Year celebration was such a surprising success- hundreds of folks came out to watch the amazing drumming and dancing by Mak Fai Kung Fu Club and ring in the new year. We’re so excited to be adding to this new tradition with Monyee Chau’s work celebrating the diversity of cultures that observe Lunar New Year, as well as our first ever lighting of our new fire pit on Pier 62!” said Yoon Kang O’Higgins, Director of Public Programs at Friends.
