Huskies Crush UC Davis

This was literally no contest from start to finish. The Washington Huskies destroyed UC Davis on the way to setting some significant records in the process. By halftime, UW was up 42-10 and clearly on its way to handing the Aggies a bruising defeat.

A Rough Night for UC Davis

UC Davis opened with the ball after UW deferred. Quarterback Caden Pinnick was sacked on his first play from scrimmage, and his first series ended in a quick three-and-out. That tone never changed. Pinnick finished just eight for sixteen for fifty yards, one touchdown, and one interception. UC Davis would cycle through three other quarterbacks as the game wore on, but the result was the same: very little success against a dominant Husky defense.

Huskies Strike Early and Often

On the flip side, UW quarterback Demond Williams Jr. wasted no time. His first drive lasted just three plays, spanned sixty yards, and took 1:20 off the clock. That opening score previewed the kind of night it would be for Washington’s offense.

The Huskies scored touchdowns on all ten of their drives. They even added a highlight-reel 78-yard punt return touchdown by Denzel Boston—his first career punt return score. It was also Washington’s first punt return touchdown since Rome Odunze’s 83-yarder against California on September 23, 2023.

Williams himself was efficient, finishing sixteen for twenty-five with 254 yards and one touchdown, including a long of forty-seven yards. His lone TD pass came on a shovel toss to Dezmen Roebuck, who turned it into a dazzling highlight—cutting back across the field and outrunning the Aggie defense. Williams also aired out a 45-yard strike to freshman Raiden Vines-Bright, showcasing the depth of UW’s receiving corps.

Jonah Coleman Makes History

The star of the night, though, was running back Jonah Coleman. He rushed for a career-high five touchdowns, powering UW to a 70-10 final. Coleman tied the modern program record set by Corey Dillon (1996 vs. UCLA) and Hugh McElhenny (1950 vs. Washington State). Only Ervin Daily’s seven rushing scores in 1919 against Whitman remain above him in the record books.

Coleman did his damage efficiently, with 111 yards on just fifteen carries. It was his seventh 100-yard game since transferring to Washington. And while Coleman stole the show, Adam Mohammed added ninety-five yards on fourteen carries of his own, further proof of UW’s loaded backfield.

The Bigger Picture

The victory extended Washington’s home winning streak to twenty-two games, an enviable mark in today’s college football landscape. While UC Davis is not an FBS opponent, they remain a strong FCS program projected to contend in the Big Sky Conference. Facing a disciplined but overmatched opponent gave the Huskies a chance to sharpen their execution and build momentum before diving into a grueling Big Ten slate featuring the likes of Ohio State, Oregon, Illinois, and Michigan.

For a Power Five contender, a dominant blowout over an FCS school is the expectation. Anything less could raise red flags. Instead, Washington delivered the kind of performance that reassured fans and reinforced the coaching staff’s confidence in their direction.

Looking Ahead

A win over UC Davis will not define Washington’s season, but it is a crucial step in preparation. The Huskies used the opportunity to test depth, refine fundamentals, and keep momentum rolling into bigger challenges.

This UW team is dangerous. If it can carry this same balance of explosive offense and suffocating defense into Big Ten play, the sky is the limit.
