In Loving Memory Mark Wendel Johnson


Mark Wendel Johnson died peacefully in his sleep, on the morning of January 14, 2022. A Seattle resident for 53 years, Mark was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 31, 1954. His family relocated to Seattle in 1968, where he would attend and graduate from Garfield High School in 1972. Mark went on to become a certified master electrician and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW Local 46), where he would contribute to several major projects, across the Puget Sound region over the next 40 years.


Mark’s friends affectionately referred to him as “Iron”, due to his large stature and his remarkable strength. When he wasn’t working on a construction site around the city of Seattle, you could find him repairing or tinkering with an automobile. Following his retirement as an Electrician for Seattle Public Schools, he enjoyed repairing cars, as well as attending auto auctions and classic car shows.


Mark was preceded in death by his mother and father, Jeanette and Harold Johnson, as well as his daughter, Rebecca Wheeler. He is survived by his son, Raymond Wheeler (wife Erica), of Auburn, WA, as well as a grandson, Marcus Wheeler of Seattle, WA. He also leaves behind three younger brothers, Vernon Johnson, Victor Johnson (wife Natalie), and Paul Johnson (wife Ricole), all of Seattle, WA, as well as, five nieces, one nephew, and several family members across the United States.

Services for Mark are as follows:

Viewing: Saturday, January 29th, 12-4 PM at Columbia Funeral Home 4567 Rainier Ave. S, Seattle, WA 98118


Funeral and Burial services: Monday, January 31st at 2:30 PM at Sunset Hills Memorial Cemetery, 1215 145th Place SE Bellevue WA 98007
