Bessie Mae Vance was born on April 24, 1929 in Tupelo, Mississippi. She was a southern native born to the union of William and Charity Vasser. She grew up in Tupelo and later as an adult, Bessie became a long time resident of Seattle, Washington, where she worked at The Boeing Company for 30 years as a “Rosie the Riveter.”
Bessie was a faithful Christian who served as a dedicated member for many years at Peoples Institutional Baptist Church in Seattle, Washington and New Life Baptist Church in Lacey, WA.
Bessie spent her retirement years living in Olympia with her loving late husband Reed Vance until his death on February 22, 2000. Following a long illness, Bessie was called home to be with the Lord on July 7, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Charity Vasser, daughter, Billie Williams, and siblings, Annie, Jimmy, Morris, Alice and Lee. She is survived by her daughter Frances Walker; grandchildren Tracy, Shelley, Pierre and Salyse,; great grandchildren; siblings Rosie, Charles, and Diane; and a host of nieces and nephews.
