In Loving Memory of Bishop Jesse T. Ogburn


Bishop Jesse T. Ogburn was born on April 12, 1930 in Clarksville, Tennessee to the union of Mr. Harry Ogburn and Mrs Janie A. Ogburn. Jesse is the second of four children. Three boys Joe Henry, Jesse Thomas and James Kelly and one girl, Mary Elizabeth. Jesse started his education at Bailey Cobb’s Elementary School in Clarksville.

The family leaving Clarksville in 1944 relocating in Muncie, Indiana, where Jesse enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948 where he completed his education. He served in Germany for fourteen years, where he met Elfriede Guest. With the permission of the Army they were married from this union was born three children: Corinna, Lester and Ruby.

Jesse also served in the U.S. Army in France, Viet-Nam and the U.S.A. receiving many awards and medals. to include the Bronze Medal Star. He retired after serving 21 years and settled down in Tacoma, Washington. He worded for West Coast Grocery Distributor’s retiring after 20 years.

Jesse joined the Prince Hall Masonic Order in 1964 and was initiated in Cassia Lodge #5 F. & A.M. Prince Hall Affiliated and became Master of the Lodge. He received the last and final degree, 33rd degree of the Masonic Order. He is also a Past Commander In Chief of Consistory #75 Jesse served as the Grand Chaplain of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Washington and Jurisdiction for fifteen years. He was also a member of the Eastern Star, Yemen Temple 152 and Cascidian Consistory #75.

Jesse joined the Shiloh Baptist Church on June 20, 1982 under the Pastoralship of the late Dr. Ernest S. Brazill. While serving as a Deacon on Easter morning 1995 the Lord called Jesse into the ministry. He received a Doctor of Divinity degree from the A. L. Hardy Academy of Theology in Seattle, WA. He was ordained and served as the Senior Associate Minister of Shiloh Baptist church in Tacoma, Washington under the Pastoralship of Dr. Gregory Christopher.

Visitation Friday March 19, 2021 3-7pm. Masonic service begins at 7pm. Funeral Saturday March 20, 2021, 11am. All services will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church 1211 South I Street Tacoma, WA. Services by Scott Funeral Home.
