In Loving Memory of Clara Mary Houston, D.D


Clara Mary Houston, D.D. born August 24, 1927, in Dubach Louisiana to parents Nellie Lewis and Robert Lewis. Clara transitioned to her permanent home on May 24, 2021. Clara was preceded in death by the love of her life Pastor Robert Houston, Pastor Emeritus, Beacon Hill First Baptist Church, mother Nellie Lewis, father Robert Lewis, seven brothers and three sisters, one son-n-law, and one granddaughter. Clara leaves to morn four children, Carmel Miller, Sharon McCraney (Dwayne), Beabe Akpojovwo, and Anthony Tait, adopted daughter, Elzelda Lofton, seven grandchildren, Darius McCraney Sr. (Melanie), Curtis Smith (Ayana), Michelle Harvey, Clarease Ahmadi (Alex), Dwaysha McCraney, and Alana Akpojovwo, and two great grandchildren Darius McCraney Junior, and Devon Houston McCraney. Clara Houston had a host of nephew/great nephews, nieces/great nieces, cousins, and numerous God children. Clara Houston was an active member of the Beacon Hill First Baptist Church, along with being the first lady for over forty years; she also served as the Superintended of Sunday School for over forty years. She was one of the advisors of the Youth Choir, coordinator of the Scholarship Committee, sung in the Senior Choir, and managed the monthly Sunday School birthday celebration dinners. Dr. Clara Houston was a retired nurse of over 30 years. She loved flowers, crossword puzzles, reading the word of God, watching the Mariners & Wheel of Fortune. She always ended all conversations with: “One thing people can’t stop you from doing is praying”. Dr. Clara Houston will be greatly missed; rest in the Lord!
