In Loving Memory of Earl Turner


Earl Turner was born in West Monroe, LA on December 9, 1935, to Della Young and Edd Turner. At a young age Earl moved to Rayville, LA to live with his older brother Zach Potts. He was baptized at New Zion Baptist Church in Rayville. The family relocated to Seattle, WA in 1949. He was educated within the Seattle School District attending Washington Middle School and graduating from Garfield High School in 1954. Upon graduating from high school Earl entered the military serving in the United States Army from 1955-1957. He began his secondary education attending Everett Community College while working as a Youth Counselor and Little League Football Coach for CAYA, he also coached the CAYA Baseball Pony League.

In 1970 Earl started his career with Allstate Insurance as a Regional Personnel Manager responsible for all west coast operations to include Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, and Hawaii. He also started a career with Washington State Unemployment Security from which he retired. Completing his education journey Earl attended the University of Washington graduating in 1972 with a BA in Business.

Earl met his fiancé Jocelyn Thrash in 1994. 3 days before their nuptials, Jocelyn was tragically killed on July 1, 2000. Earl loved her dearly, and visited her resting place in Mobile, AL every year until 2020. And now they are reunited in spirit, energy, and love.

He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, and most of all traveling back to Monroe, LA to visit family each year specifically to spend the July 4th holiday and again in November to attend the Bayou Classic, and of course to par-take in the fine southern cuisine he was accustomed too.

Earl had the honor of being a Life Member of the Royal Esquire Club and in 40 years held all elected officer positions except for Vice President.

Earl leaves to cherish is memory; sons Robert E. Hampton, Daniel Wilson-Turner, Khris Wilson; daughters Rita R. Todd, Kimberly Brooks, Michieal Turner-Gaston (Kelvin) and Alisha Liggett; brothers Willie Venson and Larkin Potts; grandchildren Torrance Todd (deceased), Jonita Foxx-Okezie, Michael Foxx, Dolonna Todd, Ishea Moore, LeBrandy Franklin (Bryce), Kendre Hampton, Devin Brooks, Darian Brooks, Zachariah Gaston, Morgan Gaston, Daniel Wilson Jr, Jae'Sean Wilson, Jaxon Wilson, Destin Wilson, Harmony Wilson, Daejon Wilson, Aubrey Afful and Anaya Jocelyn Afful; 14 Great-grandchildren and 4 Great great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends whom he loved dearly.
