In Loving Memory of James Billingsley


James Billingsley, 82, died March 31, 2022, with his family by his side in Seattle, Washington.

He was born January 17, 1940, in Tullahassee, Oklahoma to Jackson “Jack” Billingsley and Sadie Ryan Billingsley.


Mr. Billingsley graduated from Carter G. Woodson High School in Tullahassee, OK, Washburn Institute of Technology in Topeka, Kansas where he studied Electronics, and Edison Vocational Technical Institute/Seattle Central College where he studied drafting.

Mr. Billingsley relocated to Seattle Washington in 1959. He met and married Ora Mae Thomas. He and his wife resided on Beacon Hill and raised their family.

Throughout Mr. Billingsley’s life, he worked for Boeing (Aeronautics Division), Fentron, and Bell Helicopter (Amarillo, Texas). He was a journeyman in steel fabrication and worked in drafting and electronics.


His hobbies and interests included his love of music. He played guitar and performed in clubs and talent shows. Mr. Billingsley was also an avid historian, specializing in the ancestry of Creek Freedman and a rare coin collector. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Sadie Billingsley, his wife Ora Mae Thomas-Billingsley, Sisters Mary Billingsley, Ellastine Billingsley, Ewanda Billingsley-Grubbs, Estella Billingsley and brothers William Billingsley, Fredrick Billingsley, Leon Billingsley Sr., Thomas Earl Billingsley, and Nephew Ronald Lee "Hodge”. Mr. Billingsley is survived by his daughters Caprice Billingsley Gordon of North Las Vegas, Nevada, Jennifer Billingsley of Seattle, Washington, Michelle Billingsley - Akpojovwo (Alyn) of Atlanta, Georgia, granddaughter Alize Gordon and two great grandchildren, Sister Eliza Hodge, Niece Rhonda Faye Hodge, sister in-law Mary Milligan -Walker and Nephew Mark Milligan all of Seattle Washington.


Graveside service will be held August 26th, 2022, 2:00pm at Abby View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Descendants of Freedmen of the Five Civilized Tribes Association Box 42221 Oklahoma City Oklahoma 73123
