In Loving Memory of Melva Taylor


Melva A. Taylor was born to Frances and Cutine Taylor in Claramore, Oklahoma on June 24, 1941. She departed on March 14. 2021 she was 79 years old. She grew up and attended school in Claremore where she graduated from Lincoln High School for the colored with the Class of 1961. Melva moved to Tacoma, WA at the age of 19 to live with her Father Cutine Taylor. She worked in her father’s bar and grill “The Last Round” in Downtown Tacoma while also attending college at the University of Puget Sound where she graduated with a degree in accounting.

Melva retired from the United States government, spending her last 15 years of employment at Madigan Army Hospital as a management assistant. She was a member at Shiloh Baptist Church for over 25 years, she enjoyed signing in the choir. Melva loved music, going to the Emerald Queen Casino, bingo and spending time with her children and grandchildren most of all.

She leaves behind her three children Dowell Williams Jr. (Veronica), Delma Williams (Miguelina), and Patricia Williams-Moore (Kuame), five grandchildren Davonta, Emari, Olivia, Kendrea and Maya, brother David Allen, sister Sharon Heatly. Ms. Melva is preceded in death by her father Cutine Taylor, mother Frances Carter, brother Cutine Taylor Jr, two step-mothers Virginia Taylor and Theresa Taylor, and her ex-husband Johnny Duncan.

Celebration of life services will be held

April 3, 2021 at 12 noon at Shiloh Baptist Church 1211 S I St, Tacoma, Washington 98405
