Orene Kirby Scott

June 28, 1929 – August 6, 2025

Orene Kirby Scott, 96, of Seattle, WA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She was born June 28, 1929, in Prescott, Arkansas, and was shaped by her early life on the family farm and faith at Mt. Cana Baptist Church.

A graduate of Arkansas AM&N College and the University of Washington, Orene dedicated more than 30 years as a social worker with the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, later teaching at Seattle Community College and serving through the Seattle Urban League. She was deeply involved at First A.M.E. Church, where she initiated numerous missionary and community programs, including the Emergency Feeding Program of King County.

Orene was a charter member of the Delta Psi Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and received numerous honors for her lifelong commitment to service. Her home was a place of warmth, love, and her famous gumbo and oxtail soup.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Sr. She is survived by her children Oveta Scott Hunter (Joe) and Aubrey Scott Jr. (Vanetta); seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family, friends, church members, and sorority sisters.

Her 96 years were marked by faith, perseverance, and compassion. She lived by the principle that “only what we do for Christ will last,” and her light will continue to inspire all who knew her.
