In Loving Memory of Retired Nurse Vergerine “Vergie” Barnes


Vergerine (Withers) Barnes was born in East St Louis, IL on January 26, 1932, to Booker T Withers and Augusta Lewis who preceded her in death. She graduated from Lincoln HS (East St Louis IL). Vergie moved to Seattle in the early 1950’s; married Gilbert “Barney” Barnes, Jr; who preceded her in death. She graduated from Edison School of Nursing (Seattle Central College) as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Vergie’s nursing career extended over 50 years where she worked at Seattle General, Doctors, University of Washington and after 30 plus years she retired from Providence Hospital and Branch Villa Nursing Home.

Vergerine is survived by her children: Brenda (Ralph) Carrington, Patricia Barnes (Lawrence) Sam, David, Steven (Judy) Barnes. Grandchildren: Myran, Komita, David II, Cesara, Stephan, DeVante, Lawrence Jr., great, great-great grandchildren, four sisters, two brothers, a host of family and friends.

Viewing: Friday, July 2, 2021 @ 6pm to 8pm at Serenity Funeral Home and Cremation (Personal Alternative Chapel) 749 Central Ave N, Kent WA 98032.

Celebration: Saturday July 3, 2021, Mt Calvary Christian Center, COGIC, 1412 23rd Ave, Seattle WA 98122, Service 11am, Viewing 10am.

passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of family.
