REVEREND RICARDO LOCKHART
2/7/53 - 6/23/26
REVEREND RICARDO “RICK” LOCKHART was born on February 7, 1953, in Seattle, WA. He was the 3rd of four children born to Crillion & Edna Lockhart from Louisiana.
He was raised in a family that instilled faith, love, legacy, deep values and traditions in their children.
His father Crillion worked at Lockheed Shipyard and pressed upon all his sons that hard work was the only way for a boy to develop into a sound young man. His mother was an elementary school teacher and principal, and extolled the benefits and necessity of a good, solid education.
Ricardo, also known as Rick or Ricky, was a brilliant student. He loved the art of learning, the commitment involved in comprehending and understanding subjects, the mastery of the English language, the skill of communication, the beauty and knowledge of history.
His mother says that he was always a good student and always a good son, and it continued into his adult life with those values and virtues always evident.
His parents knew that the best way to keep their children out of trouble was to keep them involved in church and extracurricular activities, and one of the things they chose was creating a band called Daryl Lockhart and the Rivers of Love. The band was wildly popular in the 70s.
While in college, he was given the opportunity to work at United Parcel Service in 1973. He gained favor with both God and his employer and was promoted into management. UPS was a hard taskmaster, who believed in driving their employees to excellence in every facet of their careers. Rick worked at UPS for 34 years, retiring in 2008.
He comes from a long line of preachers! His great-grandfather was Rev. Henry Hollinquest, who founded and pastored the Holland Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Simsboro (Arcadia), Louisiana. His grandfather was Rev. L.S. Tobin, who pastored the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Seattle, and later founded and pastored the St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church in Seattle, along with his wife Mother Arbella Tobin.
His mother, Edna Tobin Lockhart, was a founding member of St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church and is the founder, along with her late husband Crillion, of the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Renton.
He was ordained a Deacon on March 19, 1994, under the leadership of Pastor Tommy Grissette; was licensed to preach on December 5, 2010, and ordained in the ministry on August 19, 2012, under the leadership of Pastor Calvin May, and called to Pastor the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church on October 18, 2015.
He was one of four preachers from the Tobin branch. Reverend Dr. Thomas E Tobin, Sr, Reverend Ricardo Lockhart and Reverend Sean Levias. Powerful preachers stemming from Rev. LS Tobin; praise the Lord. We also honoring the late Reverend Raymond Tobin; gone but never forgotten. May he rest in peace.
Blessed above a number indeed! Rick and his wife Natalie have 8 children, 22 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
He was surprised that when being treated for a persistent cough, he was diagnosed with lung cancer in September 2025. He did not smoke. Nor did he work in a factory that contain asbestos or chemicals. So, this diagnosis was stunning. And absolutely shocking. His oncologist told him that 10% of the people that are diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked, and he was in the “lucky unlucky 10%” that were diagnosed with it anyway.
But cancer is an evasive, evil disease. And it's always looking for the weakest part in your body. So unbeknownst to us, as he continued to take his treatments, introducing natural medications, doing all the things that were known to have treat and resolved lung cancer, it did not work. He received the news that the cancer had spread. And a short time later, too short, he succumbed.
He is preceded by his father Crillion Lockhart, affectionately and universally called Dad by not only his children, but to many others who knew him, and his daughter Chardelle Patrice Spencer.
He leaves to deeply mourn and grieve his passing his wife and life partner of 47 years Natalie Maxine, his mother Edna Tobin Lockhart of Seattle, his uncles Reverend Dr Thomas. E Tobin, Sr of Seattle, WA, and Parnell Lockhart of Anchorage, AK, only sister Deanna (Walter) Ayala Hill of Seattle, WA; brothers Bruce (Maria Lolita) Lockhart of Kent, WA and Daryl (Lordy) Lockhart of Seattle, WA; sons Derrick (Mauri) Lockhart of Covington, WA; Mario (Lily) Lockhart of Marysville, WA; Donnell “DJ” Pennywell of Renton, WA; Dominique (Maribel) Lockhart and Adrian Lockhart of Los Angeles, CA; daughters Kimberly (Victor) Fuller of Chicago, IL and Lorna (Jamie Totten) Pennywell of Portsmouth, VA; 22 grandchildren: Sakeyla (Jonathan) Evans of Lakewood, WA; Mia Lockhart of Seattle, WA; Celina (Joseph Villar) Lockhart of Phoenix, AZ; Bryce and Chase Fuller of Chicago, IL; Ladaysha (Rudy Vasquez) and Aniya Spencer of Los Angeles, CA; Amoni Spencer of Renton, WA; Chris Jr and Latosha Spencer of Seattle, WA; Kendall and Jordyn Lockhart of Atlanta, GA; Damien Janson of Greenville, SC; Aseneth Castaneda, Ariana (Joshue) Herrera, Amaya (Isaac) Brown, and Aman Castaneda of Marysville, WA; Justice and Bradyn Patterson of Ledyard, CT, Valentino and Laylani Lockhart of Los Angeles, CA; 9 great grandchildren: Messiah Sutton Evans, Iyauna and Emilio Evans of Lakewood, WA; Khalani and Kelis Sutton and Kiyomi Scott of Seattle, Arabella and Joseph Vilar Jr of Phoenix, AZ and Zaire Vasquez of Los Angeles, CA, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and acquaintances far too numerous to name.
