Ruby Townsend Herrin entered eternal rest April 27, 2024, at Swedish Orthopedic Institute in Seattle, where she received exceptional care.
Ruby was born October 13, 1935, the second of three children, to Walter Sr. and Mattie Stewart Townsend in Huntsville, Alabama.
Ruby attended Columbia Elementary School, Franklin High School, class of 1953 and St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Yakima, WA
Ruby enlisted in the United States Air Force and was given an Honorable Discharge and a National Defense Service Medal. Ruby stayed connected to the Air Force; she traveled across the country year after year to attend Women in the Air Force reunions until the COVID-19 pandemic. Ruby was a dedicated volunteer at the VA Medical Center in Seattle, where she contributed over 4,000 volunteer hours.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, brother Walter and nephew Eric.
She leaves to mourn her legacy sister Lucy Townsend Winston, an Aunt Mary (Clarence) West, Los Angeles,, her 105 year old cousin Sarah Davis Bell, in Huntsville, Alabama, her god-daughter Tamara Buie, South Carolina, nephews, nieces and friends who also mourn her passing.
Prayers, cards, flowers, hospital visits have been a huge showing of love support for the family. It is very much appreciated – thank you!
