Shirley Ann Lake-Day, 77, of Seattle, Washington, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 30, 2022. Shirley was born on July 4, 1944, in Galveston Texas to the late Rufus Lake and Jeffie Lee Lake. As a child, the family moved to Seattle, Washington where she graduated from Garfield High School.
She furthered her studies and obtained her bachelor’s degree from Wilberforce College, now Wilberforce University. Shirley became a schoolteacher for the Seattle public school system where she had an exemplary teaching career spanning over 30 years. Shirley made a profound impact on so many of her students.In 1970 she married her former husband, Arthur Day; through their union she became the proud mother of two sons, Dr. Pepper Day and Jeffrey Day. After her retirement, Shirley, the constant learner, spent her free time reading and learning to play the piano. She also loved documentaries.Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Rufus and Jeffie Lee Lake, and her brothers Louis Lake and Tyrone Lake (Drea). She is survived by her two adult sonsPepper Day (Chantel) and Jeffrey Day; her brother Haley Lake (Barbara); three grandchildren Autumn, Sage, and Hendrix, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
