Terry Bell was the eldest son born to the late Supt. Levi and Cora M. Bell on July 29, 1950, in Yakima, Washington. Terry attended elementary school in Yakima, WA, until the family moved to Seattle in 1957. He attended T.T. Minor elementary school, Meany Jr. High, Franklin High School and graduated from Garfield High School in 1968. Terry enrolled at Seattle Community College, but the opportunity to become a Seattle Firefighter prevailed as he had begun that career field. He had numerous occupations in his life journey. Terry was a pipefitter and loved working in the construction field. He attended and graduated from Northwest Culinary School where he learned to prepare a variety of culinary meals. Terry loved to cook and his giving heart allowed him to cook meals for family and friends.
Terry was the “Mad Hatter”, his love for stylish hats was unparalleled. He knew how to wear a hat and he enjoyed all the compliments, receiving them with his devilish smile. Terry had the coolest walk ever. His long ”cool” gait was recognized when he walked into a room.
Terry was a true jazz aficionado. His love for jazz, particularly the jazz guitar was everything to him. Jazz music was a part of who Terry was, as that music danced in his soul….and will continue as he moves to higher ground.
Terry could make you laugh until you hurt. He had a real slick comedic side that kept you on your toes if you were around him. Because of selfless nature, easy going attitude and huge heart, many of his friends referred to him as “My Guy”.
Terry was an incredible and loving caretaker. He cared for both his aging parents before they transitioned from this life.
Terry attended Faith Temple Community Church of God in Christ, where the Pastor was his father (The late Supt. Levi Bell). He professed his love for God and prayed every day for his blessings and for his family and close friends.
Terry Bell transitioned from this life on February 1, 2023. He is survived by four children, Shalonda Baker, Tori Bell (Jeff) Tivona Bell (Jeff Keilman), Terry Bell Jr. and eight grandchildren. Terry is also survived by his siblings, Diana O’Brien, Allen Bell (Laquetha), Sheree Bell, Jackie Hunter (Randy) and his sister-in-law Denise Bell. He also leaves to mourn his passing countless relatives and a host of friends. Terry was preceded in death by his parents Supt. Levi Bell and Cora M. Bell, and his sister Hortense Burks.
Terry would always say “I read my Bible every day and I always pray”. Terry will truly be missed by all that loved and knew him.
