King County and City of Seattle distributing free face coverings in Rainier Beach on Aug. 20

King County residents can obtain free face coverings to help combat the spread of COVID-19 in Rainier Beach in Seattle on Thursday at an event hosted by King County and the City of Seattle. The masks are a part of 25 million face coverings purchased by King County, and will be the fifth public distribution hosted by King County.

The drive-through distribution event is open only to King County residents. Each resident can receive two reusable cloth masks, and each vehicle can obtain masks for up to six household members, or 12 masks per vehicle.

"Everyone in King County should have a face mask, and to make sure that happens we are giving out 25 million of them for free," said Executive Constantine. "County-wide, we have already distributed more than 4 million reusable and 10 million disposable face coverings, and we want to go even further, so that everyone can do their part to stop the spread of COVID-19.”

"To protect our communities from COVID-19, it’s incumbent on each of us to follow Public Health’s guidance. We are still in the middle of this pandemic and wearing face coverings is a part of our new normal," said Mayor of Seattle Jenny A. Durkan. "We need every community to have access to this life-saving resource. I’m incredibly grateful to the County and Public Health for their partnership with the City of Seattle to distribute face coverings in one of our most diverse communities within the City."

With recent directives from the state Department of Health and Public Health – Seattle & King County, face coverings should be worn in indoor public spaces and outdoors when six-feet distances can’t be maintained. Face coverings can help reduce transmission of the virus, and along with hand washing and social distancing, play an important role in ending the outbreak.

Where: Rainier Beach Community Center, 8825 Rainier Ave S, Seattle, WA 98118 When: Thursday, Aug. 20 from 1-5 p.m.

Note: Enter at the parking lot entrance on Rainier Ave S, and residents can drive through to the Treasure Truck toward the back of the parking lot, or walk up to the tent near the community center entrance to receive masks. Residents can tell the staff person the number of individuals in their household, and receive 2 cloth reusable masks per household member, up to 6 household members. The maximum number of masks a resident can receive is 12.
