Mount Zion Baptist Church extends a heartfelt invitation to the community to attend the 60th Anniversary Celebration honoring our Minister of Music, Mrs. Phyllis M. Byrdwell.

A special dinner will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at Mount Zion in the Jessie L. Shields Fellowship Hall. The cost is $50. Tickets may be purchased online at mountzion.net/byrdwell.

Join us on Sunday, September 13th for our 10:00 a.m. Worship Service, and extend words of congratulations during the reception following the Service.

Mrs. Byrdwell, a faithful servant of God, uses her musical gifts and talents as a soloist, keyboardist, pianist, organist, composer, and choir director. She is a member of the American Choral Directors Association and a former board member of the Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA) and Seattle Symphony Board where she was elected as a Lifetime Director for her significant contributions. She was inducted into the Washington Music Educators Association’s Hall of Fame and honored by Seattle Pacific University as one of five legendary Gospel Music Directors in the Seattle/Tacoma area.

In addition to her contributions to Mount Zion, Mrs. Byrdwell currently serves as a guest lecturer at the University of Washington where she teaches a gospel music class.
