The National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) announced the launch of its 90th Anniversary PowerUp Tour. This 15-city tour aims to have NCNW President and CEO Shavon Arline-Bradley connect with local sections, affiliates, and communities to further the organization's mission. Seattle will host the tour's first stop.
"We are excited to kick off the tour in Seattle. The NCNW Seattle Section and our affiliates have organized a wonderful opportunity for us to engage with their community and explore how best to support their needs. We are in a crucial time right now, and it is essential that we remain committed to unity and self-reliance," said Rev. Arline-Bradley.
The NCNW Seattle Section will host a PowerUp Town Hall on Feb. 24 at 6 pm at Mount Zion Baptist Church, located at 1634 Rev. Dr. S. McKinney Avenue. This town hall will serve as a community listening session.
Meko Lawson, president of the NCNW Seattle Section, stated, "Community members are encouraged to join the town hall. We invite you to share your concerns and propose solutions to the issues affecting our neighborhoods." Sarah J.E. Dean, president of the NCNW Rocky Mountain Regional Coalition, shares the excitement for the opportunity to hear from the national president and CEO.
Rev. Arline-Bradley is the youngest and first President and CEO of NCNW, bringing 21 years of experience in healthcare, diversity, equity, and inclusion, government affairs, and executive leadership. She served during the Obama Administration at the Department of Health & Human Services; as executive vice president of strategic planning and partnerships and former chief of staff at the NAACP. In 2024 she was the youngest keynote speaker for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Beloved Community Commemorative Service, and in 2026, she was the keynote speaker at the MLK Celebration held at the Washington National Cathedral.
She is a community advocate who has served in leadership capacity with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Links, Inc., and Jack & Jill of America, Inc.
NCNW promotes education; encourages entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and economic stability; advocates for public policy and social justice; engages women in health education and promotes access to healthcare.
Founded in 1935 by Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, NCNW is an "organization of organizations," comprising nearly 500 campus- and community-based sections and 38 national women's organizations. NCNW affiliate organizations and the community are encouraged to attend.
