Reminder: Sound Transit to begin Simulated Service on Saturday, Feb. 14
Trains will operate every 4-5 minutes between International District and Lynnwood
Sound Transit will begin Simulated Service for the Crosslake Connection on Saturday, Feb. 14, bringing 2 Line trains across Lake Washington and delivering trains every 4-5 minutes between the International District/Chinatown and Lynnwood City Center.
Simulated Service is the final step in preparations to open the Crosslake Connection and extend 2 Line service to Lynnwood. During this phase, test trains will operate the entire length of the route, and passengers will be able to ride trains on segments of the track that are currently open.
This testing phase also means increases in service on both sides of the lake. Passengers between Seattle and Lynnwood will see trains every 5 minutes for most of the day, and passengers on the 2 Line will enjoy extended hours, with service until midnight between South Bellevue and Downtown Redmond.
Schedules have been adjusted to accommodate 2 Line trains going out of service at Chinatown/International District Station. In the event testing results in extended delays, 2 Line test service may be suspended, but 1 Line and 2 Line Eastside trains will still operate.
Heading to the airport?
With Seattle Public Schools’ mid-winter break coming up, it’s important to remember that once simulated service beings, not all trains at 1 Line stations will serve the airport. If you’re heading to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport this weekend, pay attention to head signs.
1 Line trains will display a green square and “Federal Way” while 2 Line trains will show a blue square and “International District/ Chinatown.” Trains will also announce which Line they run on and where they’re heading, but another easy way to remember is short train, short trip: 2 Line trains will run with 2 cars, while 1 Line trains will continue to operate as full 4 car trains. So if you’re taking a short trip in town, grab a short train – but if you’re heading to the Airport or down to Federal Way, look for 4 cars.
