Taproot Theatre celebrates the music of jazz legend Fats Waller in Ain't Misbehavin'

This Tony Award-winning musical revue comes to life with Harlem nightclub-inspired cabaret seating

SEATTLE, WA — February 4, 2026 — Taproot Theatre presents the second production of its 50th Anniversary Season, Ain't Misbehavin', The Fats Waller Musical Show by Richard Maltby, Jr. Featuring iconic songs like This Joint Is Jumpin' and immersive cabaret seating, this Tony Award-winning tribute to Black artistry runs March 18–April 25, 2026, in Taproot's Jewell Mainstage Theatre (204 N 85th St, Seattle, WA 98103). Bretteney Beverly directs this Tony Award-winning musical revue as a tribute to Black artistry, bringing the Harlem Renaissance to Taproot's intimate stage. "Ain't Misbehavin' is a vibrant tribute to the sound, style, and spirit of the Harlem Renaissance," Beverly said. "This electrifying revue blends sly humor, lush vocals, and swinging rhythms into a night of pure theatrical joy." Also featuring exclusive and interactive cabaret seating, audiences will be transported to a 1930s Harlem nightclub. Ain't Misbehavin' stars a band of five who invite the audience into the jazzy world of Fats Waller through song and dance. Yusef Seevers plays Ken, who is cheerful, loud, and larger than life, and Chandler Thomas plays Andre, who is a party hound and a bit of a flirt. Rounding out the cast are Alexandria Henderson as Charlaine, a sweet and innocent young woman, Erica Walker as Nell, a knowledgeable and confident lady, and Sarah Russell as Armelia, a strong-willed, feisty woman who is not afraid to share her thoughts. From Honeysuckle Rose to I Can't Give You Anything but Love, this cast performs nearly 30 Fats Waller hits in just two hours.
