The Future of Black Homeownership Summit to Take Place in Seattle’s Central DistrictAfricatown Community Land Trust to Host Event Focusing on Black Homeownership, Equity, and Solutions for Thriving

Seattle, WA — Africatown Community Land Trust (ACLT) is proud to announce the Future of Black Homeownership Summit, scheduled for September 28, 2024, in Seattle’s historic Central District. The event will bring together leaders in the real estate, policy, and community sectors to address the pressing issue of Black homeownership in Seattle and beyond. The summit will also provide valuable resources for prospective homeowners and advocate for systemic solutions to create equitable opportunities for Black residents in the city.

Despite Seattle’s booming real estate market, Black homeownership rates in the city remain disproportionately low compared to both national and state averages. The summit aims to empower attendees by providing the tools, knowledge, and resources necessary to close this gap and build wealth for future generations.

The summit will feature:

  • Keynote addresses from local and national thought leaders on the economic and social importance of homeownership for the Black community including a keynote from NACA CEO Bruce Marks.

  • Panels and Workshops offering practical advice on navigating the home-buying process, securing financing, and advocating for policies that support affordable housing and ownership featuring panelists representing Homesight, Homestead CLT, WA State Housing Commission, the Nehemiah Initiative and more.

  • Networking opportunities with industry experts, financial advisors, and community leaders.

The Future of Black Homeownership Summit is part of ACLT’s broader mission to build a thriving Black community in Seattle by creating pathways to economic self-sufficiency and long-term stability. ACLT continues its commitment to preserving the Central District’s Black cultural heritage and ensuring that community members can remain rooted in the neighborhood that has historically served as the heart of Seattle’s Black population.

“We know that homeownership is a key pathway to building generational wealth and creating stability for Black families. This summit is an important opportunity to bring together leaders and community members to discuss solutions and offer support in navigating this difficult market,” said Wyking Garrett, CEO of ACLT.

The event will be held at the Wood Technology Center located at  2310 South Lane Street from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and is free to attend with registration. Attendees will also have access to resource tables and one-on-one consultations with experts in the field. Space is limited, so prompt registration is encouraged.
