SEATTLE – Uncle Ike’s Pot Shops, a Seattle cannabis retailer, has proudly partnered with the Emergency Feeding Program (EFP), a partnership that will continue throughout the holiday season and into the new year. Since October, Ike’s has provided families in Seattle and South King County with more than 9,000 pounds of food, and employees have been donating their time to help feed families in need.

Uncle Ike’s connected with EFP through Joy Hollingsworth, leader of Community Engagement and Strategic Planning for the organization and co-founder of Hollingsworth Cannabis Company. Uncle Ike’s leadership team and employees were quick to partner with the EFP when presented with the opportunity.

"We are very grateful to be working with the team at Uncle Ike’s as one of our food distribution partners,” Hollingsworth said. “As we continue to find different ways for people to access food during this pandemic, it’s important that we work together as a community focusing on a common goal — feeding people."

As part of the partnership, Uncle Ike’s focus is distributing boxes of free groceries through their Central District and White Center locations. Starting at noon every Friday, the boxes are available to anyone in need – no questions asked. Boxes contain meats, bread, cheese and dairy, fresh produce, canned and dried goods, snacks and more. Food is distributed on a first come, first served basis, while supplies last.

The Emergency Feeding Program’s current seasonal campaign will ensure that 5,000 families are fed for the Holidays! In addition to the standard staple foods donated to their warehouse, EFP used their own funds to supplement 5,000, 25-pound boxes with extra supreme foods for the holiday season. These special provisions will come in sturdy boxes, with handles. Ike’s will distribute them on Wednesday, Dec. 23, instead of the usual Friday giveaway, so families in need will have them for Christmas.

“Uncle Ike’s is a business built around serving customers and community, with honesty and integrity, so the EFP’s mission to provide a nutritional response to people in need of immediate food assistance aligns perfectly with our goal to be a force for positive change in Seattle,” said Ian Eisenberg, owner of Uncle Ike’s Pot Shops.

The Emergency Feeding Program has served the community for 43 years, donating about 42,000 meals each week. They have distributed 1.9 million pounds of food this year alone! Uncle Ike’s is grateful for the opportunity to contribute to an organization that supports underserved areas by providing access to healthy foods and produce.
