Exhibition marks the 20th anniversary of The Unspoken Truths Traveling History Museum
Seattle, WA — March 5, 2026 — The Seattle Office of Arts & Culture will host We STILL Dream A Future—Reclaiming Humanity: Afrofuturism Past, Present, Future, a powerful exhibition from The Unspoken Truths Traveling History Museum, on display at King Street Station from March 5 through May 9, 2026 (FREE & Open to Public).
The exhibition also celebrates the 20-year anniversary of The Unspoken Truths Traveling History Museum, a traveling collection dedicated to telling the often-unspoken truths of American history through an African American lens.
Curated by Delbert Richardson, a second-generation storyteller, the exhibition uses artifacts, historical objects, and narrative storytelling to illuminate histories often left out of dominant narratives. Through African artifacts, interpretive displays, and cultural storytelling, the exhibition invites visitors to engage with deeper truths about African heritage, the realities of U.S. chattel slavery, and the enduring resilience and brilliance of Black communities.
Beginning with “Mother Africa,” the exhibition grounds visitors in the rich intellectual, cultural, and technological traditions of African civilizations—affirming that Black history begins not in bondage, but in sophisticated societies shaped by architecture, metallurgy, mathematics, spirituality, and artistic mastery.
The exhibition then traces the devastating impact of U.S. chattel slavery and the long legacy of systemic oppression, while also illuminating stories of resistance, innovation, and cultural brilliance that have helped shape the United States and the broader world.
The experience culminates in an exploration of Afrofuturism, inviting visitors to imagine futures rooted in joy, love, compassion, belonging, creativity, and freedom—and to consider their own role in shaping the world to come.
An opening ceremony took place on Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at King Street Station, welcoming community members, educators, artists, and cultural leaders to experience the exhibition and celebrate 20 years of The Unspoken Truths Traveling History Museum preserving history, amplifying truth, and inspiring future generations.
We STILL Dream A Future—Reclaiming Humanity invites visitors not only to examine the past, but to imagine the future we can build together.
We all share a responsibility to dream a better world—one that is more loving, compassionate, supportive, and inclusive. The question before us is simple but powerful: How will we use our passions, our gifts—our superpowers—to help make that world a reality?
