Reframe Your Mind

Adjusting your thoughts will improve your life

There’s a version of you that your destiny demands. We evolve into that person, in part, through changing the attitude of our mind. Oftentimes, culture acts as a force that keeps us confined, conditioning us to think according to traditions and belief systems that prioritize survival, but may not be healthy or sustainable.

Consider adaptive and maladaptive thinking. Adaptive thinking is flexible and constructive, helping you cope, regulate emotions, and achieve goals. Maladaptive thinking is rigid and negative, interfering with stress management, relationships, and decision-making.

Here’s the danger: the majority of us can discern negative (maladaptive) and positive (adaptive) thoughts; however, there’s thoughts that aren’t as easily detected – maladaptive thoughts disguised as adaptive thoughts. Here’s some examples, plus ways to reframe:

"If I don't do it, no one will." | Reframe: “It’s okay to delegate and trust others to show up too.”

"I don’t want to bother anyone with my problems."  | Reframe: “People who care about me want to support me too.”

"I’m just being realistic—it’s probably going to go wrong."  | Reframe: "I can acknowledge the risks, but I choose to hope and trust that things can work out for good—even if it doesn’t look the way I expected."
