The Worthwork
Unlearning performance. Reclaiming identity. Remembering you were always enough.

Unlearning the false beliefs I had around self-worth has been one of the most revelatory experiences. Not only am I unpacking my own beliefs, but also the ones I inherited. Here’s the thing about healing – you’re only responsible for your own. If you commit yourself to true healing, it has the ability to impact your sphere of influence.
Here are some common lies people believe about their self-worth:
“I’m only valuable if I’m being productive.” — Rest, stillness, or simply existing feels lazy or useless.
“I’m only as good as what I can do for people.” — Relationships are transactional, not based on mutual value or care.
“I was too broken to begin with.” — Belief that worth was never there, only damage.
“My feelings don’t matter.” — What I feel is irrelevant or invalid.
'I'm only valuable if I'm doing something useful or impressive.' – My worth isn’t inherent—it's conditional.
As a result of believing these lies, many of us embark on a quest for significance. We earn for the love, respect, praise and care we never had. Many times what we discover is unhealthy, and often leads to compromise. If we’re not aggressive in unlearning these beliefs, they’ll likely be passed down.
Whatever isn’t transformed is transferred.
Words of Wisdom by Char of the Week: Worthwork, for me, is all about weeding out the false beliefs about my self-worth and watering the truth. Here’s the truth: your self-worth is inherent. Self-worth is received, not earned.
