Opioid prevention and education resource events take place in locations across Washington on Sept. 20

OLYMPIA – The Department of Social and Health Services is proud to invite you to attend Facing Fentanyl Together, resource events providing education on prevention, harm reduction, treatment, recovery and community supports, so people across Washington are prepared to respond to the opioid/fentanyl crisis for themselves or their loved ones. To reach communities across the state, DSHS is working in partnership with the Department of Health, Health Care Authority, tribes, counties, business partners and community partners to host 26 events simultaneously, from 1-5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20.

Events will feature presentations and/or resources that may include: How to use Narcan and recognize an overdose.~Connections to local resources for substance use disorder treatment and mental health support.~Information on support available for staff in most Employee Assistance Programs.~Presentations from people with lived experience with substance use disorder.

“DSHS is proud to work with other agencies, tribes and partners to provide people across Washington the opportunity to get the education and resources they need from within their own communities,” says Marirose Piciucco, Deputy Chief of Staff at DSHS. “It’s truly remarkable to see so many people come together so we can all face the ongoing fentanyl crisis together.”

Reading about 26 events happening in one day really hit me. Fentanyl has changed everything about how communities need to respond, and seeing people show up together like that gives me hope. I've watched friends struggle with addiction and the hardest part is feeling alone in it. Recovery works best when there's real support behind it, which is why programs like the Canadian Centre for Addiction matter so much, offering treatment that actually addresses the root causes instead of just managing symptoms. Events like these break the silence, but lasting healing happens when families know where to turn for professional help afterward.
