For the first time in over 30 years, the United States is hosting the World Cup.
North American partners United States, Mexico and Canada will collectively host 48 teams for 104 games across 16 host cities.

Six of the matches will take place here at Seattle’s Lumen Field starting Monday June 15!
Belgium v. Egypt June 15;
Australia v. USA June 19;
Bosnia-Herzegovina v. Qatar June 24 and
Egypt v. Iran on June 26.
We also host two elimination games, on July 1 and July 6.

The full schedule of games taking place at Lumen field is here. Group watching venues are sprouting up across the Puget Sound area and local businesses are busy planning to accommodate interested customers and viewers. Some of those opportunities are listed here.

To welcome world cup fans, local leaders were invited to hoist the FIFA glad atop the iconic space needle!
The space need roof was already painted like a soccer ball! And now, the FIFA flag is flying high and mighty.
My family is a soccer family, which is why I’m personally so excited about the world’s largest sporting event coming to our home city.
My son and daughter both grew up playing soccer locally and both went on to coach youth soccer here in our city.

My daughter played competitive varsity soccer for the University of Oregon. I travelled to Eugene to see all of her home matches.

My daughter is now a full-time coach with the Seattle Academy here in Seattle.
We are a soccer family and will be cheering on the USA team in this year’s world cup!

I hope that this window in the early summer provides each of you with the opportunity to share in the community spirit of these events. Soccer is one of the most accessible games in the world, which is why it’s so popular on each continent. At times like these with so much trouble in the world. It’s important to connect with neighbors and rejoice in our community.
It is my honor to represent you on the King County Council.
