Honoring Firefighter Cardell W. Thompson Day




In case you missed it, February 21, 2024, was declared Cardell W. Thompson Day in the City of Seattle. Mr. Thompson was honored with a resolution from Mayor Bruce Harrell recognizing his 39 years of exemplary service to the community as one of Seattle's original black firefighters. Cardell served as an active firefighter for almost 20 years and went on to do outstanding work in the Fire Marshall's Office. He was the final inspector for Sound Transit and approved the remodel of his alma mater, Garfield High School. During the Covid years, working seven days a week was not uncommon. The event took place during the Black History Month Celebration hosted by the Department of Neighborhoods. May Harrell's Chief of Staff Jennifer Samuels red the proclamation. when you see Cardell, ask him how it felt to be completely surprised with this honor.
