Bobbye Jean Duckworth
January 14, 1938 – May 16, 2026
"God is on the Throne."
Bobbye Jean (Blackwell) Duckworth, a devoted educator, entrepreneur, and beloved matriarch, passed away on May 16, 2026, in Atlanta, GA, at the age of 88. A Bellevue, Washington, resident for over 60 years, she lived every chapter of her life with purpose and grace.
Born in Jacksonville, Alabama, Bobbye earned a B.S. from Tuskegee University in 1962 and an M.Ed. from the University of Washington. She gave 20 dedicated years to the Bellevue School District and, upon retirement, continued to shape young minds as a substitute teacher in Seattle. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to run Decorating Den and Bobbye's Interiors, turning homes into havens with her signature taste.
A gifted seamstress, proud Seahawks fan, faithful member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, and proud member of Fir State Golf Club, Seattle's historic African American golf club founded in 1947, Bobbye brought her whole self to everything she touched.
She is survived by her sons, Derrick and LaSean (Atlanta, GA), daughter Sonia (Seattle, WA), grandson Fielding, granddaughter Sebastian, and great-grandson Sekani. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Duckworth, her parents, and seven beloved siblings.
Feisty, strong, compassionate, and fiercely loving — she tackled life fully and always knew God was on the Throne.
