In Loving Memory of Elonzo Winston Sr.

Elonzo Winston Sr. was born on May 26, 1927, in Rayville, Louisiana, to the late Robert Winston Sr. and Eva Robinson Winston. He attended Rayville High School and was a member of the Eula D. Britton Alumni Club. In 1945, he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Forces, where he served in Squadron D, 413th Base Unit. He received the World War II Victory Medal and was subsequently honorably discharged.
After his discharge at Hamilton Field CA, he returned to Louisiana and married his childhood sweetheart, Vallena Calloway in 1950, and in 1951 relocated to Seattle, Washington. Three children were born to this union.
After arriving in Seattle, Elonzo immediately started working for Premier Home Building Contractors, building luxury homes primarily on the east side, i.e., Bellevue, Camano Island, Mercer Island, Medina, Summerset and Hunts Point etc. He designed and built his personal residence where he lived with his wife for 59 years. For 70 years he was a proud member of Local 242. He retired in 1994.
Elonzo became a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in 1970 under the leadership of Dr. C.E. Williams and subsequently Rev. Dr. Robert L Jeffery Sr. He worked in the Building Services Department under the leadership of Bro. James Davis. Elonzo and Vallena were appointed by Rev. Jeffery as co-chairs to oversee the decorating and upkeep for the new church following destruction of the original structure by fire. He remained a faithful member until his death.
In addition to his loving parents, Elonzo was preceded in death by seven siblings. He is survived by his three children, Eva Delores (Dennis), Elonzo Jr. (Karen), Deborah Kay (Edward), Goddaughter Desiree Dale, Five siblings, Lemmie (Ora), Samuel, Abe, Odesta, Anna, sister-in-law Izola Winston, grandchildren, Tamika, William, Brandon, Alysha, Brittany, Anthony, Donielle (Roger), and Corie Jenae; 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family friends, bonus children, bonus grandchildren and his beloved church family.
