Mary Jo Young was born on April 4, 1944, in Fort Scott, Kansas. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1963 and later attended Western Washington College, where she studied music.
Mary Jo briefly worked at the post office before becoming an office manager for West Courier
Services while faithfully caring for her ailing mother.
Baptized on April 1, 1945, Mary Jo devoted her life to her faith and the church community. She
served faithfully in the music ministry for many years, sharing her gifts by playing the piano and
organ and lifting her voice in song.
Although Mary Jo had no children of her own, she lovingly helped raise her nieces, great-niece, and great-nephews. She was also known as an incredible cook and baker, with many joyful “family disputes” over her famous cakes and holiday cookies.
In retirement, Mary Jo lived a peaceful life enjoying time with neighbors and members of her
community. She passed away on February 7, 2026.
Services will be held at Grace United Methodist Church on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.,
with a repast to follow in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace
United Methodist Church.
