In Loving Memory of Mary L. Winters

Mary L. Winters was welcomed home by heavenly hosts on Thursday, September 9, 2026. She was born July 10, 1935, in Hollandale, MS, to Frank Jackson and Mary Catherine Mobley (Dansby), where she met the love of her life, James Winters, who preceded her in death. They moved to the central district of Seattle in 1976, where, after her retirement from Monsanto, she was a baker and caterer. Well-known in Seattle and beyond for her five-flavor pound cake, she was affectionately known as “the Cake Lady.” She was also very generous and never met a stranger, silently giving to her family, the community, and her beloved church, Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.

Called “Mom” or “Granny” by family and friends alike, Mary was preceded in death by 5 of her 10 children (biological and stepchildren): Gary Jackson, Sherry Jackson, Eric Winters, Andrew Winters, and Kelvin Winters, and 1 grandchild: Lamont Rice. She leaves behind 5 children: Gaynell Jackson-Burnside (Willie), Ricky Jackson, Rosalyn Jackson, Terrance Winters, Darren Winters, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, other family, and friends.
