In Loving Memory of Mozell Brown

Sunrise August 1, 1938 - Sunset October 2, 2025

Mozell Brown was born on August 1, 1938, in Nacogdoches, Texas, to the union of the late Robert Graham and Ivery Sparks (Powdrill). Her family relocated to Seattle, Washington area in 1943.

Mozell grew up in Seattle's Central District and attended Garfield High School, graduating in 1956. She returned to school and furthered her education by attending Western Washington University, earning a degree in Urban Planning.

Mozell joined Edmond Brown in holy matrimony in June 1957, and together they had one child, Rochelle Lynn Brown.

Mozell was employed by the Boeing Company and the City of Seattle, where she was the administrative assistant to Councilmember Sam Smith. She moved to the solid waste utilities department, where she ended her career with the City of Seattle after many years of service, she retired in 2002. She was the Pastoral Secretary 2001-2004, for Rev. Dr. Leslie D. Braxton at Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Mozell was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Graham and Ivery Sparks (Powdrill), brother, Andrew Glapser, and sister, Melba Graham. 

She is survived by her daughter, Rochelle L. Brown, and grandchildren, Amina and Ayden Brown, her sister, Marjorie Fitzgerald, nieces Hazel Alexander, Holly Lacey, Julia Baker, and nephews Alvin Horn, Robert Alexander, Robert (Diama) Baker, Richard Baker, the Graham family, and many dear friends.  

A memorial service will be Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 10:00 am at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1634 19th Ave. Seattle, WA 98122.
