Gerald James Hatcher, 94, passed away on February 4, 2025, after a long illness.
Gerald was preceded in death by: parents Melvin Maxzillian and Cleoda Hatcher; brothers Melvin Maximillian and Frank; and sisters Cleoda Marie, Christine and Ellen.
He is survived by: sisters Barbara (Jim) Coleman of San Francisco Bay and
Gail (Clarence) Walder of Mesa, Arizona; sons Gerald David and Albert Jay; daughters Vivian (Rob) Detzner, Julia Mayes, and Eslun Tucker; grandchildren Jaymin Hatcher, Adesjola Tucker, Isaac Immanuel, and Cher Mayes; great-granddaughter, Raina Nail; and a host of nieces, nephews, and various family members.
Gerald was born November 28, 1930, in Bremerton, Washington. He graduated from Garfield High School in 1949, and married his high school sweetheart Dorothy Mae Henderson the same year. In the 1950’s, he worked shortly at Boeing before pursuing real estate. He sold homes in the Seattle area to Black people who had been discriminated against and to a diverse group of people throughout Seattle and surrounding areas..
In 2010, he retired and enjoyed traveling, carpentry, and retail sales from his home.
