Coach Williams & The Future

For the fourth season in a row Coach Lorrita Williams led her basketball team -- The Future – to achieve another remarkable undefeated season! Coach Williams volunteers her time to give back to the community at the Meredith Matthews YMCA Community Center by coaching 5th and 6th grade boys to yet another undefeated basketball season. Coach summed up the season: “This year we had more points in each game and great players. We created a chemistry that played on everyone’s strengths.”

Blake Mix, a 6th grader, experienced playing with Coach Williams’ team for the first time this year: “Coach trains us hard, so we can have a solid chance to play high school ball. It’s good for us.” Blake maintained a high average of points per game.

Several players, including co-team captains V and Nicky, as well as starters Maki (top guard) and Vernon (power forward) were all dynamic players and had a major impact on making the team undefeated.

In addition to the starters, all of the players who came off the bench made significant contributions to the team and the season. Fifth grader Jackson Murphy was one of the team’s quickest players. He described playing with Coach Williams: “It was fun. One time, I brought the ball all the way up the court and hooked it under the basket and scored!”

Coach Williams makes sure all the players know how to play their position, come together as a unit, and have an awesome time playing basketball. Everyone’s commitment led to another undefeated season!
