We're taking over 23rd and Union, honoring Seattle's Black heritage with the city's only long-table community dinner.

Africatown is taking over 23rd and Union with the Re:Union on Union community block party featuring DJs, local food vendors, and an extra-special live performance by the legendary R&B group, Surface.Known for their multiplatinum albums, smooth vocals, timeless love songs and chart-topping hits, including "Shower Me With Your Love," "Happy," "The First Time," and "Closer Than Just Friends," Surface remains one of the genre’s most beloved vocal groups.Enjoy a mouthwatering menu options provided by Wally’s NW Soul, Chef Red of Come Eat Daddy, Jerk Shack, Catfish Corner, Moe Vegan and Polly’s Cakes and Bakes!Since 2018, Re:Union on Union has become an annual tradition, a multigenerational gathering that welcomes neighbors, old and new, to reminisce, reconnect and honor Seattle’s Black community and the Black-owned businesses that resist displacement and persist in the Central District.

Presented by Africatown Community Land Trust, the event invites people from across the region to experience a sense of home while celebrating Black legacy, community ownership and the renaissance of the Central District today.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

Food and beverages:

Wally’s Soul Food: Chicken, salmon, macaroni and cheese, greens and hush puppies
Come Eat Daddy — Chef Red: Chicken and turkey-sausage gumbo with rice, vegetarian red beans and rice, and cornbread muffins
The Jerk Shack: Oxtails, rice and peas, and plantains
Moe Vegan: BBQ mesquite vegan “beef” brisket, buttery garlic bread and a specialty beverage
Catfish Corner: Fried catfish, coleslaw and iced tea

COMMUNITY EXPERIENCES

Grandma’s Living Room will offer a nostalgic space inspired by the warmth and character of Grandma’s home, featuring vintage furniture, family photographs, records, books and cultural décor.

Paw Paw’s Garage will provide a relaxed gathering space where guests can connect and play spades, dominoes, chess, checkers and UNO.

Rooted in Community will feature an interactive community tree where guests can add their names, family histories, memories and hopes for the future.

The Central District History Booth will invite guests to record and share stories about their families, memories and connections to the neighborhood.
