Seattle Strike invites neighbors to vote and celebrate through Rock the Box

Volunteer gatherings near ballot drop boxes encourage early voting and community solidarity
SEATTLE — Seattle Strike will host Rock the Box, a series of volunteer-led ballot box parties at 10 locations in Seattle and Shoreline, from 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 1, 2 and 3. Residents are invited to return their ballots, connect with neighbors and celebrate democracy ahead of the Nov. 3 general election.
“Defending democracy starts with building communities where people know one another, trust one another and are ready to act together,” said Paul Birkeland, a Seattle Strike organizer. “Rock the Box brings that work into our neighborhoods. When we come together to vote, we’re also building the relationships that help us stand together beyond Election Day.”
“We are here holding these Ballot Box Parties as neighbors and friends to celebrate our democracy.” said Connie Lednum, Rock the Box organizer from Shoreline, “We are preparing for a peaceful General Strike to protest what the billionaires are doing to us. We are also preparing for what comes next to stand for our democracy.”
Rock the Box is part of Seattle Strike’s Vote, March, Strike approach to defending democratic rights through voting, organizing and peaceful collective action.
SeaStrk member and graphic designer Barbara Taylor adds: “I’ll be there with my fiddle and music buddies playing old time dance tunes for our neighbors. Dancing encouraged! We hope to turn voting into a moment of joy and a reminder that we’ve got each others’ backs. We’re going to have fun with it.”
