The FIFA World Cup kicks off this week and as the games converge upon Seattle, we’re excited to showcase our community on the world stage at this year’s Juneteenth Freedom Festival

Black American history continues to inspire the world and lives at the core of a universal call for self-determination.

In the face of decades of gentrification and displacement, the Seattle that Africatown is building honors the history and the current contributions of the local Black community through land ownership – the foundation of a Black and thriving Central District.

This includes preserving Black cultural traditions that bring us together, including the annual Juneteenth celebration started by DeCharlene Williams in 1982 that we continue today.

Join us at Jimi Hendrix Park on Friday, June 19th to celebrate our community’s vibrant culture with live music and cultural  performances, a Black-owned business marketplace, food vendors and more, including  a headlining performance by Grammy-nominated, international soul-songstress Marsha Ambrosius.
