With August here, now is the time to get out and soak in the warmth and beauty of summer in Seattle. If you're looking to explore local art, get your hands a little dirty, meet new neighbors, hone your creativity, or show off your dance moves, check out some upcoming events across the city that offer plentiful opportunities to build community and make memories. 

Upcoming Community Events

• July 31 - Aug 2 | Seafair Weekend Festival, Genesee Park. Whether you’re a local or a first-time visitor, Seafair Weekend captures a bit of the essence of the Pacific Northwest’s vibrant culture and natural beauty.

• Aug 1 | Art in the Garden, Ballard P-Patch. The 24th annual event features art vendors, a beer garden, wine grab, live music, ice cream, and a kids activity corner. 

• Aug 1 | Lake City Summer Festival & Parade, NE 125th St. between 25th Ave NE and Lake City Way NE. A vibrant neighborhood festival with food vendors, artisan market, musical performances, family fun zone, and multiple parades. Supported by DON. 

• Aug 1 | Children's Garden Work Party, Picardo Farm P-Patch. Help prune grape vines and weed paths in the garden. Kids activities include making grape vine wreaths and bagging leaves for the hungry goats. 

• Aug 1 | Kubota Garden Young Naturalist, Kubota Garden. Youth ages 7 - 11 are invited to explore the garden's living ecosystem through hands-on, guided exploration. Event is free, but registration is required.

• Aug 1 - 2 | Umoja Fest, Judkins Park. A festival celebrating the best of the Pacific Northwest's Black community and African diaspora culture, featuring food, family fun, and performers including Musiq SoulChild. 

• Aug 4 | National Night Out, Citywide. This annual, nationwide event promotes police-community partnerships, heightens crime prevention awareness, and builds neighborhood camaraderie through block parties, cookouts, and festivals. Find a registered event near you, or plan your own!

• Aug 5 | Family Craft-ernoon, Chinatown International District Library Study Room. Families and children 3 years and older are invited to join library staff for an afternoon of simple craft making. 

• Aug 6 | First Thursday Art Walk, Pioneer Square. Explore numerous art venues including galleries, museums, restaurants, bars and shops. 

• Aug 7 - 28 | Summer Outdoor Movie Series, Portal Park, Belltown. Base Camp Studios hosts the 3rd Annual Outdoor Summer Cinema series with climate related film screenings every Wednesday throughout the Month. Supported by DON.

• Aug 7 - 14 | West Seattle Float Hunt. Throughout the week, hand-blown glass floats are hidden in shops and parks throughout West Seattle—find one, scan the QR code, and it’s yours to keep. Supported by DON

• Aug 7 | Central District Art Walk. A free, family-friendly neighborhood gathering in Seattle’s Central District the first Friday of every month. Each event features visual art, workshops, poetry, live music, and activities and highlights local artists and small businesses. Supported by DON. 

• Aug 8 | Make Ballroom Fun Again Symposium, University of Washington HUB 145. Learn about ballroom culture, cultivate working relationships with community, and develop a strategic work plan for future activities. Supported by DON.

• Aug 8 | What's Good! Hillman City Block Party, Hillman City Business District. A free, all-ages event featuring live music, food and craft vendors, a kids zone, local business events, and a Classic Swagger car show. 

• Aug 8 | SOPASUPA! South Park Summer Party, South Park. Celebrate summer in South Park with live music, food vendors, an art market, kayak river tours, a skate park party, kids zone, and lucha libre.

• Aug 9 | Columbia City Beat Walk; World Beats & Rhythms, Ferdinand Festival Street. A free concert series that creates inclusive spaces for people of all backgrounds to appreciate the beauty of various musical traditions.

• Aug 12 | Our City, Our Safety Community Conversation, Delridge Community Center. Join leaders from SPD’s Southwest Precinct for a  conversation about safety to help influence the Seattle Police Department’s approach to safety in Delridge.

• Aug 14 - 15 | PhinneyWood Art Walk, Greenwood Ave. between N 67th St. and N 85th St. Stroll through the Phinney Ridge and Greenwood neighborhoods and experience a vibrant showcase of local artists, makers, and businesses transforming our streets into a walkable gallery. 

• Aug 15 | Quake, Rattle, and Roll! Emergency Response Practice, multiple Emergency Hub locations. Community members are invited to participate in post-earth quake emergency response simulations to learn emergency skills, build community resilience, and have fun doing it. 

• Aug 16 | Capitol Hill Garage Sale Day, Cal Anderson Park. Seattle’s longest running community garage sale features over 150 people selling their treasures in the park and across Capitol Hill.
