Medicine For The Soul

Laughter heals

Laughter has the ability to crack open a smile, like a dose of light on our darkest day.

Laughter is my favorite stress reliever. It can lift-up a hung down head. Brighten up somebody's day. It’s a language we can all understand. Did you know that when we laugh tons of oxygen is brought to our organs? It’s literally life giving.

For a second, I want you to consider the last time you had a ‘good’ laugh. Like that laugh that makes you cry or on the brink of using the restroom.

When we’re on the go, constantly trying to move things forward, we miss the opportunities to simply smile and laugh. Though I don’t believe happiness is present in every second of our lives, joy is.

Perhaps your loved one has passed away, you’re going through financial turmoil, you received a negative doctor’s report, you’re going through a break-up, you’re trying to embrace a new transition, you’re having a hard time understanding your relatives. A wise message I received was “you can outlive anything, just keep living.”

To live without laughter is like a fish without water, a cow without milk, a house without a foundation.

Though laughter doesn’t change the situation you’re in, it does allow us to believe that everything will eventually be okay. Laughter reminds us that joy is accessible to all of us. Laughter seizes any opportunity for a defeated mindset. Face your circumstances with laughter.

Words of Wisdom by Char of The Week: This week, go watch a comical movie or television show. Give yourself permission to find joy, and do all you can to maintain it. Joy isn’t in what you have, or who you’re connected to. Joy comes from God. Joy comes from within. When you fill your life with joy, others will benefit from your overflow.

“God blesses you who are hungry now, for you will be satisfied. God blesses you who weep now for in due time you will laugh.” – Luke 6:21
