King County Elections to Conduct Two Recounts for November 2023 General Election





King County Elections will conduct two mandatory recounts for the November 2023 General Election. City of Newcastle, Council Position No. 3 is headed to a mandatory machine recount, while Mercer Island school District No. 400, Director Position No. 5 qualifies for a mandatory hand recount. King County Elections did not receive any requests for additional recounts prior to the deadline on November 30.

The machine recount will take place from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6. The hand recount will take place Wednesday, December 6 and Thursday, December 7 beginning at 8:30 a.m. each day.

Representatives from both major political parties, the campaigns, and non-partisan observers have been invited to attend. In addition, Elections’ livestreaming webcams will be available on our website until the recount is certified.

Final recount results will be certified on Monday, December 11 at 10:30 a.m. The certification meeting will take place virtually and will be livestreamed on the King County Elections Facebook page.
